Iranian authorities announced Thursday, January 8, the dismantling of several Israeli-intelligence cells operating within the country, arresting 44 individuals accused of planning a “false flag” assassination operation intended to destabilize the nation.
The Mossad-plotted scheme aimed to kill civilians and blame Iran, escalating regional tensions amid periods of domestic unrest, officials informed.

In a coordinated series of operations, officials reported seizing firearms, ammunition, and bomb-making equipment. Several individuals were detained for orchestrating riots and attacking public and religious property, according to prosecutor Goodarz Amraei.
Officials Say Propaganda is Being Fabricated
Simultaneously, the arrest in Tehran of a Mossad agent operating undercover was confirmed.
According to interrogations, the agent confessed to receiving tactical instructions from Germany through social media with a dual mission: to recruit young people for acts of street violence and to film the ensuing unrest, thereby supplying material for foreign propaganda aimed at destabilizing the region.
On the same line, authorities in Tehran said they busted a major digital warfare campaign, arresting 40 people accused of using artificial intelligence to generate and spread fabricated images and videos of chaos.
This disinformation effort, which officials said reused old footage, was designed to create a false narrative of nationwide turmoil. The content was identified and removed through joint intelligence and judicial operations.
US President Donald Trump has repeatedly voiced support for protesters, warning that Washington could attack Iran if what he frames as “peaceful protesters” are harmed.
